Spiritual Confessions with Shruti Pathak:
Candid moments during the Spiritual Confessions.

Shruti Sharma: What is that one place where you run to for your peace?

Shruti Pathak: Haridwar… My demised father’s final rituals were performed there and I still feel very connected to that place deeply. It is a place where I feel mixed emotions like sadness, grief, seldom, peace, and solitude. It is a balanced place for me because there was grief and peace together as an experience.

I wouldn’t say Haridwar makes me happy. However, it give me peace, makes me feel grounded and connected to the reality of life. Its acceptance and submission at the same time for the journey forward.

Shruti Sharma: What is your way of remembering god? We all follow different ways such as meditation, prayers, chanting, etc… how do you connect with god?

Shruti Pathak: My time with god is usually a mental connection. So it’s in my head that I am either talking or connecting, and meditating. There is no specific procedure that I really follow to connect with god. Connecting with god or remembering the supreme depends on the day to day routine.

“Subconsciously or consciously I know I am connected to God; in any situation of my life I am constantly in touch with him.”
– Shruti Pathak

Being musicians I guess it’s a tool God has gifted to us and so music of course and then there are Mantras that I listen to. Mantras help me go to sleep. I listen to Mahamantra of Krishna. Other than mantras, there are lots of thoughts that come in mind and I don’t disrupt those as it helps me connect with God.

Shruti Sharma: What do you mean by enlightenment? What should a person do to feel enlightened?

Shruti Pathak: I don’t know much about enlightenment but, I am very conscious about what I think and how I behave with people around me. I am a very conscious and observant person towards others. That’s what according to me a step towards enlightenment is. I believe it is not going to come to me unless I take the effort to be a better person.

“In order to be a better person, I think consciousness is very important to be enlightened.”
– Shruti Pathak

Shruti Sharma: Some artists perform for performing; some artists perform soulfully to connect with the audience. Amidst millions of artists in the world, why do we feel connected to a few? Only their music touches our soul. As an artist, do you believe in soul connection?

Shruti Pathak: Absolutely! Music is the first thing that occurred in The Universe. It’s the sound it’s the OM. The start of the Universe happened with music. It is an essential part of every living being.

You feed good music to a plant or you curse a plant; you will see the difference between the two in a few days itself. The sooner we realize this soul connection, the better for us. Everything is music from the wind to the way we are talking. When a human being is looking for peace, be it western or Indian, they will feel connected to soulful music.

Shruti Sharma: Some artists are religious and some are spiritual; what are you?

Shruti Pathak:  Both! It depends on a good day and a bad day (laughs)… when I want something I become religious too (speaks out of humor). Suddenly, spirituality sets in and I speak to myself that I do not want anything (laughs again).

We are all like micro beings in this huge Universe; we all have days when we become materialistic when we want things and then there are days when you feel peaceful and joyful. It is like a pendulum. On one side, you are constantly struggling and hustling so you lose peace.

One must be spiritual to stay content and also be religious to connect with the system of the whole thing. For instance, I love the religious practices such as Havan and Mantra Chanting; the whole vibe of the house changes.

Shruti Sharma: Shruti, as you discuss about spreading kindness, do you remember a kind gesture by a stranger for you?

Shruti Pathak: There are a few that I will never forget honestly. You come across people and during such incidents I go into conversation with my demised father and believe it is papa looking after me. You take it as a sign and feel blessed when something like that happens.

Goa Incident: I was performing in Goa in the outskirts in the middle of the jungle. This was during the beginning days and I had no management with me. It was like a two hours’ drive in the middle of a small village.  Considering the preparations, delays, and performance, it took 5 to 6 hours of the day to complete the performance.

I was dying to use the washroom; it was literally pitch dark but, the village crowd was so well-dressed and covered that I just couldn’t ask anyone in that attire of a performer. It was a two hour drive back to the hotel and I knew I wouldn’t be able to control for that long.

My driver suggested me to go to that scary jungle for a quick pee break. I started talking to my dad as usual while walking into woods and seeking his help.

All of a sudden from nowhere, someone taps on my shoulder and asks me; “Are you Virendra Pathak’s daughter? He said he visited our office years ago and I made tea for him. I am your dad’s friend and we shifted to Goa a couple of years ago. He forced me to come to his place and meet his family. All I remember that time was Thank You and Thank God Washroom! (laughs aloud).” Many such incidents make you believe in kindness that stays for years with you.

Similarly, many such paranormal activities and instances have happened with me that made me believe in Universal signs, gestures, and signs.

Shruti Sharma: How would you differentiate between goal and purpose in life?

Shruti Pathak:  As per my understanding, goal is short sighted and purpose is way deeper.

Shruti Sharma: Sometimes, artists follow the rule of competition fiercely and feel it’s fair to cut others in order to shine; then there are also artists that believe in Karma and fear it. What are your thoughts about it?

Shruti Pathak: Yes! I do believe in it. I strongly believe whatever is meant for me no one can take it away from me and what is not meant for me I cannot snatch it from others. Little hustle is needed. Healthy competition is good but, crossing boundaries and becoming obsessive is not good.

I remember the story during my childhood; are you cutting other’s line to make you line bigger or are you working towards making your own line bigger?

It is a very conscious choice to make and these things also reflect your family upbringing, values, and how sensitive you are towards making your own life.

I would rather work 24/7 to achieve my goals than stay busy in pulling others down.
– Shruti Pathak

Shruti Sharma: Is spiritual growth important for artists too?

Shruti Pathak: It is must needed for every artist and for everyone in general! Spirituality helps the artists to stay grounded. If you don’t do it, it will be difficult for the artist to value professional as well as personal achievements.

The sooner you allow spiritual growth to enter in your life, the better for you. As an artist, you have so much to offer to people so as an artist one must know how to be peaceful with self and be in sync with your own emotions at first.

There are times when we all fail when all your knowledge, patience, awareness, and realization goes out of the window; you go deep into the mud which you know is not right for you, but knowing is not enough. Growing spiritually or practicing it is important so that you know how to pull yourself out of it if in a similar situation in the future.

– Shruti Pathak

Shruti Sharma: Do you believe in luck or faith in your career? Many artists believe it is your own hardship and hard work that brings you up to the top of the success and one must not rely on faith or luck; what are your words on this?

Shruti Pathak: I think not just career Shruti, but my entire life is based on faith. If you take hope and faith from someone’s life it will be depressing as there is nothing to look forward to. We all live with a hope or faith that tomorrow is going to be beautiful.

Even if you are in a relationship with somebody, you always hope things will get better tomorrow or in the near future. Without hope or faith, you will wander in a dark world wondering where to go.

To add more, since my childhood I believed I will be a singer and I worked towards being a singer. Hope is the first step.

Message by Shruti Pathak for fellow artists, fans, and followers:

The best wish or blessing is Music. I am not saying that my music is a blessing (laughs) but, I really hope I am able to touch more hearts of people with my music. I am blessed with music and I really wish everyone has music in their lives.
